PLASTIC FANTASTIC - USYD BIOMOD 2023

We are a small team from the University of Sydney in Australia working to design DNA nanostructures to help find ways to combat the growing problem of nanoplastics.

Plastic Fantastic

Nanoplastics are found all around us, including in the food we eat or the air we breathe. After we ingest these plastics, they can travel and deposit all around the body, where they have been linked to a variety of adverse health effects. Therefore, we propose our DNA Cargo Bay design to detect and capture these plastics from the bloodstream using DNA origami and DNA aptamers. To find out more about the design, please watch the video below or read more about it on this website!
