We are a multidisciplinary group made up of four undergraduate students passionate about the potential of science in the biomedical realm working under the guidance of Dr Shelley Wickham and PhD candidate, Karuna Skipper.

Edmund Derwent
Undergraduate Student
He is currently studying a combined biomedical engineering and law degree. He has a particular interest in the crossover between science and medicine and finding novel treatments through research. Outside of studying, Edmund enjoys philosophy, often pondering upon life’s most compelling and contested questions like why lisp has an s in it.

Lucy Hing
Undergraduate Student
She is currently undertaking a combined biomedical engineering and science degree majoring in biochemistry. She has a particular interest in nanotechnology and enjoys sharing her interests with others having been heavily involved in running STEM-based workshops for primary and secondary school students under Engineers Without Borders.

Alicia Werlen
Undergraduate Student
She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Chemistry and the Mathematical Sciences with Statistics, and is particularly interested in nanotechnology and applied statistics in the medical and environmental fields.

Markus Williams
Undergraduate Student
Markus is a dedicated undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Science with a major in Chemistry and Biochemistry. He is passionate about exploring the dynamic intersection of the natural sciences. Beyond his academic pursuits, Markus is deeply involved in science education and is an active tutor for New South Wales Higher School Certificate science subjects.

Karuna Skipper
PhD Candidate
Karuna is completing a PhD in Chemistry, aiming to create self-forming artificial cells from DNA nanostructures. She is particularly enthusiastic about science communication, and is frequently involved in presenting scicomm events for students and the public.

Dr Shelley Wickham
DECRA, Westpac Research Fellow, and Lecturer in the Schools of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Sydney
Her research interests are in the self-assembly of matter on the nanoscale, and in particular in the design and assembly of programmable nanostructures out of DNA, with applications in cell biology, materials science and nanomedicine.
